Vancouver, BC… Studio 58, the nationally renowned qualified theatre training software at Langara Higher education, has developed great musicals for more than fifty decades. To get started 2017 with a BANG and continue this tradition, we proudly current 42nd Road, the track and dance fable of Broadway with an American Aspiration story that incorporates some of the biggest tracks ever penned. Who can fail to remember “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “Shuffle Off to Buffalo”, “Dames”, “I Only Have Eyes For You” and of program, “42nd Street”. Based mostly on a novel by Bradford Ropes and Busby Berkeley’s 1933 movie, 42nd Road tells the story of a starry-eyed young dancer named Peggy Sawyer who leaves her hometown for New York to audition for a new Broadway musical. When the main lady just can’t go on, Peggy will take in excess of and will become a star.
The 1980 Broadway output, developed by David Merrick, directed by Gower Winner and orchestrated by Philip J. Lang, received the Tony Award for Greatest Musical and turned a lengthy-working hit. The display was developed in London in 1984 (winning the Olivier Award for Greatest Musical) and its 2001 Broadway revival received the Tony for Greatest Revival.
The thrilling innovative staff is direct by award-winning Director Barbara Tomasic (New music Male, Wizard of Oz, Insane For You) in her Studio 58 debut. She is joined by Christopher King (New music Male, Oklahoma!, Shrek), Choreographer Julie Tomaino (Beaches, From Listed here To Eternity, Sleeping Splendor) also in her Studio 58 debut, Set Designer Pam Johnson (Romeo + Juliet, A single Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, A Midsummer Night’s Aspiration), Costume Designer Carmen Alatorre (Pericles, Stickboy, New music Male) (Studio 58 debut), and lighting Designer Alan Brodie (Grease, Spring Awakening, Julius Caesar).
